Teacher - Miss Helena Kennedy
Hello! Welcome to Tawny Owl’s class page.
I am the Year 5 Tawny Owl class teacher Miss Kennedy, alongside Mrs Reilly our teaching assistant.
Hello. I am Mrs Reilly. I have worked at WJS for many years as a Teaching Assistant. I have followed the Y4 classes into Y5, Tawny Owls, to work with and support Miss Kennedy.
I love reading, especially children's books, which is due to our guided reading sessions. There are so many lovely books now for children to read that we didn't have when I was growing up.
I have two lively and energetic cockerpoo's that take up a lot of my time outside school. (Oscar and Radley).
I also enjoy being with my family, especially my lovely grandchildren.

Topic Of The Term!
This terms topic is ‘Ancient Greece’. Following our Greek day, we will be leaning about:
* The geography of Greece.
* Democracy in Greece – Athens and Sparta.
* Ancient Greek warfare.
* Life in Ancient Greece.
* Greek Gods.
* What the Ancient Greeks did for us.
* Ancient Greek art – Pottery.
We will also be relating to our topic within English lessons, reading and creating some of our own myths.
Throughout the first half term, Tawny Owls will be taking part in whole class guitar lessons every Wednesday. This is in addition to other exciting music opportunities presented around school (Harvest Festival, The Big Sing, Christmas Concerts, individual music lessons).
Within maths we will be focussing on the four number operations (+ - x ÷), angles and shape. In addition we will complete a mathematical investigation each Friday, involving problem solving. These investigations may be related to our week’s work, or our topic.
Remember to practice your times tables at home.
Our science topic this term is ‘Materials’. This will involve identifying properties of materials, uses for materials and separating materials. He will be conducting some interesting experiments in order to investigate these subjects.
This term in English we will be focussing on myths and legends which fit nicely alongside our topic, ‘Ancient Greece’. We will be creating recounts, fact files, dramas and letters which will lead to us writing our very own myth. During the term we will also be reading some Ancient Greek myths and legends and studying them during reading lessons.
Remember to practice your spellings and read your guided reading pages.
